Valentine’s Day Giveaway Winner

Last month saw our giveaway offer. To celebrate Valentine’s Day we made a special offer of a free promotional video for a charity based between Bristol and Cardiff.

We had specific criteria – the video had to be one that would promote an event in 2017.

At Luminous Media we love working with charities. As a business our mission is to do others good, and to help those seeking to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

We were delighted with the response that we received but could only select one charity this time.

For 2017 we have chosen Caring in Bristol to receive our free video offer

Caring in Bristol is a small, effective and local charity that looks after homeless and vulnerable people in Bristol. They strive to create a society where everyone has a home, has hope and is a part of their community.

Ben Richardson, Partnerships and Development Lead for the charity, said, “We are delighted to be working with Luminous Media, and grateful for this amazing opportunity. We look forward to getting a creative message out about how members of the public can get involved and make a real impact on the lives of homeless people in Bristol – watch this space!”

Volunteer Driven Projects

The charity’s volunteer-driven projects include Bristol Nightstop, which involves the recruitment of hosts for young and vulnerable people, Caring at Christmas, where their 800 volunteers help to provide shelter, food and clothing for people in need over the festive period, and the publication of the Survival Handbook, which contains a raft of useful information about Bristol’s homeless support services.

Night Shelter

As our 2017 winners Caring in Bristol will receive a half day of filming, editing, and animated/motion graphics to help them with the opening of their new night shelter.

Media Training for Charities

Motion graphic video for a Hollywood icon

Motion graphic video for a Hollywood icon

We recently produced a video advert to promote a new Marilyn Monroe fragrance. With the launch of ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’ we were commissioned to produce a motion graphic video to help promote the new fragrance. The story was covered at Wales Online and in the South Wales Argus.

The opportunity to produce the video came after Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products developed a new collection based on the portfolio of 12 Hollywood film titles featuring Marilyn Monroe. The news of this was reported here, and the release of this collection has opened up several avenues for new product ranges.

‘How to Marry a Millionaire’

Bristol based fragrance specialist Designer Fragrances then launched the ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’ inspired women’s fragrance, and gift sets, into stores across Europe. The company already produces fragrances for Kelly Brook, Katie Price, Alex Curran, and CBB star Calum Best.

It is a massive honour for a local Welsh company to be able to produce a video for a product like this. As you can imagine, there are very strict guidelines for using images of a Hollywood legend like Marilyn Monroe.

Storyboard

We came up with a storyboard for the motion graphic video that drew on elements from the movie as well as showcasing the fabulously designed fragrance bottle. We used the film stills from the ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’ movie, plus other images.

Video is a powerful medium to engage online audiences and it will increasingly become a key part of any digital marketing strategy for businesses of all sizes.

With online sales and marketing a huge feature for any new product, Designer Fragrances were looking for a media company with the expertise to produce a video fit for a Hollywood icon. As we have wide ranging experience in digital advertising and motion graphic videos we were delighted to land this project.

‘How to Marry a Millionaire’ is available to buy in local high street stores and online.

Media Training Day with Carers Trust Wales

Media Training Day with Carers Trust Wales

Media Training Day with Carers Trust Wales

We were recently invited to run a media training day for the Young Adult Carer Council of Carers Trust Wales.

Over four sessions we trained them in public speaking and interview techniques for TV.

There are an estimated 30 000 carers under the age of 25 in Wales. Carers Trust Wales are doing a great job in supporting and advocating for carers.

Bespoke media training

The 12 strong Young Adult Carer Council often receive requests for radio and TV interviews, so we were brought in to help them prepare for that.

We looked at:

  • How to speak in public (so that people will listen)
  • How to give an interview on TV (theory and practice)

Lights, Camera, Action…

All of the delegates had to prepare interview answers. We filmed each interview and gave feedback on how this did.

For us, one of the most heartening aspects of the day was the honesty, integrity, and authenticity of the interviews. They were incredibly moving. We were glad that the environment on the day was conducive to that.

We were also joined on the day by Bethan Jenkins AM who shared her experiences. Bethan is the Assembly Member for South Wales West, Chair of the Assembly’s Culture, Welsh Language, and Communications committee, and features regularly on TV and Radio.

Feedback

Education Officer, Elizabeth Taylor, from Carers Trust wales said:

Martin, from Luminous Media, has been incredibly supportive with our training for our Young Adult Carer Council. He tailored the media training specifically for our young people, who found him engaging and interesting. We would certainly use his services in the future.

Here’s what the delegates said:

I learned so many things about how to do interviews that I didn’t realise I didn’t know.

I liked watching myself back as it helped me to learn, I would like to thank Martin and his tech man for their time.

I found it interesting watching the videos, cheers Mart.

Every business needs an axeman.

Every business needs an axeman.

Social Media is PR for the masses

We show no mercy to pointless phrases, empty clichés, bland statements, and aimless waffle.

To us they are the usual suspects. We hate every single one of them.

Bad copywriting is giving your business hassle.

Problems, problems, that just won’t go away.

You don’t need that.

There are some bad words out there.

Our job is to give them the long kiss goodnight.

We’re not just talking about apostrophe’s’ ending up where, frankly, they’ve got no business to be.

We’re talking about confusing your customers.

We’re talking about making people switch off.

We are here to take out the rubbish for you.

We enjoy writing stuff where we can pretend to be gangsters.

But most of all we enjoy writing good copy.

You don’t have to take out a contract.

But you can hire us.

Capisce?

We are going to give you a number to call. And an address to write to.

Use them carefully.

You know what you need to do.

hello@luminous.media

Don’t worry. If we write your brochure, newsletter, blog, flyer, advert, or website copy, we won’t make you sound like a Mafia Don.

Not unless you want us to.
